Chelsea have hit a snag in their efforts to offload Trevoh Chalobah this summer.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Blues have reached out to Como to revive negotiations for the England international, but reaching an agreement will be difficult.
The 27-year-old is also attracting interest from Serie A champions Inter Milan.
However, Chelsea have been forced to explore other options after the Italian giants temporarily paused their interest in Chalobah.
At the moment, Inter and Como are the clubs mostly interested in Chalobah, meaning the Englishman is more than likely to end up in Italy this summer.
However, recent developments suggest that neither Italian club is ready to rush into a deal.
Inter’s immediate priority has shifted after missing out on other transfer targets, with the club now concentrating on signing a wing-back.
That has pushed a move for Chalobah down their list for the time being, even though they admire the defender and could return with an offer later in the window.
Inter’s reluctance has pushed Chelsea to reopen talks with Como to find out whether they’re still interested, even after turning down an initial €25 million (£21.3m) bid from the Serie A overachievers.
Chelsea believe Chalobah is worth more and are hoping to cash in for a fee closer to £30m. However, none of the interested Italian clubs are ready to match their demands.
Chelsea were hoping the competition between Inter and Como would drive up Chalobah’s price tag, but both clubs recently held talks and agreed not to compete aggressively for the same players.
They want to avoid starting a bidding war and have instead decided to explore other options. Como are already exploring a move for Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez.
The former Tottenham Hotspur centre-back is on their shortlist, and Como head coach Cesc Fabregas has reportedly given them the green light to pursue a move.
Chelsea will hope to convince Como to return to the negotiating table, but the Blues may have to accept a compromise to revive a potential deal for Chalobah.
