The Blues face Manchester United in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea already have the Subway Women’s League Cup and Barclays Women’s Super League title in the bag and they are potentially just 90 minutes away from securing the domestic treble for just the second time.
Chelsea were presented with the league trophy last weekend but head coach Bompastor says that there has been no time for celebration and that all of the focus is on adding another trophy on Sunday.
“Training has been good and we are focused on the last game,” Bompastor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “It’s a really important game for us, it’s a final at Wembley, an historical stadium. To have the opportunity in one game to win another trophy will be something exceptional for the team and for the club.
“We are really focused on that. We know we can have an historical season with the treble, so all of the focus is on that goal.”
Going on to discuss the treble in more detail, Bompastor said that winning three out of four competitions would represent a good season for Chelsea but it’s not perfect. She also commented that The Blues will be taking nothing for granted against a well-drilled Manchester United side this weekend.
She said “It would be a great season but not a perfect one because we missed one trophy. To be honest, I’d be really proud of my players and staff.
“It’s a final and we are playing Manchester United who are a team that are used to playing in this final. They are a really strong team that don’t concede many goals and we need to remember that.
“I think the final will be 50-50. Firstly, we want to go into that final with the best preparation, with the right mindset and focus on the goal. Hopefully, we will speak afterwards about a treble but we have to play the game first.”
Bompastor will lead Chelsea out at Wembley for the first time as head coach and The Blues boss admits that it will be a very special occasion for the club.
She said “The opportunity to play at Wembley is something great. Most players and managers would love to be a part of that, so I think we are lucky to be in that position. We have earned that right but also, we need to enjoy the moment because it’s a really special moment. It’s a final and at the end of the game, there’s a title.
“We know we are facing a really strong team, so we will be ready for that. We have prepared the same this week as we have done previously and we have worked really hard with the confidence that we have. We feel ready for the final.
“It’ll be a really special moment, all tickets have been sold, so to have the opportunity to play in-front of a sold-out Wembley could be the perfect end to the season if you win.”
The 2024/2025 Adobe Women’s FA Cup final takes place at Wembley Stadium at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
