After the injuries to central defenders Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana were confirmed to be worse than feared last week, there have been a flurry of rumours about Chelsea potentially trying to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace.
The academy product was our best centre-back last season, and most fans were dismayed by the decision to send him away in the first place. But now there’s a chance to get him back, fans are equally split. Some just want to continue to see him thrive and to snub the club which treated him so shabbily. Others want him back to show (for a third time) how good he is.
Chris Sutton spoke to London News Online with his thoughts on the matter:
“From his perspective, going to Palace and getting game time has been really important. But it’s a situation where Maresca and Chelsea have to be ruthless.
“If they are short in that area, and they do look to be, then it’s an obvious one. The fact he has gone out and got more Premier League experience is good for him,” the former Blackburn striker mused.
“He’s performed well at Palace. The back three have been an integral part of them progressing and moving in the right direction. That seems to be a bit of a no-brainer.”

There are still too many moving parts here to predict which way it will go: how quickly do our injured defenders recover? What are the terms of the recall? How does Chalobah feel about it? What other options are on the market? What does Enzo Maresca think of Josh Acheampong, who filled in last week?
This one could yet go in many different directions, and there could be big developments to come.
