Chelsea eased into the FA Cup semi-finals with a commanding 7-0 victory over Port Vale at Stamford Bridge, handing Liam Rosenior a much-needed lift after a difficult spell.
Following defeats in the Premier League and Champions League before the international break, this emphatic win ensured the Blues kept their hopes of silverware firmly alive.
The hosts made a lightning start, taking the lead inside two minutes when Jorrel Hato reacted quickest after a loose corner in the box.
João Pedro doubled the advantage midway through the first half with a calm finish after turning his marker, and the tie was effectively settled before the break when Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel turned the ball into his own net under pressure to make it three.
There was no let-up after the restart. Tosin Adarabioyo headed home a fourth from a Malo Gusto delivery, Andrey Santos added another at the far post, and Estêvão got on the scoresheet late on after earlier involvement in the build-up. Substitute Alejandro Garnacho then completed the rout from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
The result sends Chelsea through to Wembley and provides a timely confidence boost for Rosenior amid off-field distractions involving Enzo Fernández and Marc Cucurella. Tougher tests lie ahead, starting with Manchester City’s visit next weekend, but for now Chelsea can look forward to a place in the last four and a renewed sense of momentum.
