Chelsea are advancing on two fronts as they step up talks to sign Alejandro Garnacho and sell Christopher Nkunku in the summer transfer window.
The Manchester United forward has been heavily linked with a move to south west London after falling out with Ruben Amorim at the end of last season.
United are looking to sell Garnacho as he is no longer part of the manager’s plans, although Amorim has said that he would be reintegrated if a move did not materialise.
Nkunku, meanwhile, has been pushing to leave Stamford Bridge after failing to get regular gametime in the Premier League. The attacker started just nine times in the top flight last season, and his sale could enable the purchase of Garnacho.
Their hopes of offloading Nkunku seemingly took a blow on Tuesday as The Times reported that Chelsea rejected a loan bid for the player Bayern Munich.
The German outfit wanted to take the 27-year-old on an initial loan, but the Blues “remain clear in their stance” that he will only leave on a permanent basis.
Inter Milan also hold an “interest” in the France international, but a return to former club RB Leipzig could be on the cards. The Athletic claim that Leipzig are “stepping up talks” over a permanent transfer.
Nkunku is “open” to the move and “keen” on leaving Chelsea for good, although a deal is “not considered close” and “other options remain in play”. Meanwhile, “informal talks” over a deal for Xavi Simons to join the Premier League club continue.
Chelsea are also “advancing in club to club talks” with United for Garnacho, with a “deal underway”, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Bayern also made an approach for Garnacho it in recent days, but the player turned it down as he “only wants” Chelsea.
