Chelsea Injury Update, Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Levi Colwill Return Timelines

Chelsea’s season often moves at pace, shaped by the rhythm of fixtures and the fragile balance of player fitness. This week offers another reminder of that reality. A demanding run of matches approaches, including a Champions League meeting with Paris Saint Germain, and the squad picture at Chelsea appears to be gradually improving.

Liam Rosenior’s side survived an FA Cup scare against Wrexham, eventually progressing with a extra time victory. While the performance may have tested nerves, the broader outlook for Chelsea is more encouraging. Several key players were rested, others returned from injury, and the club could soon receive further reinforcements.

Estevao Recovery Boost for Chelsea

Chelsea supporters may soon see Estevao back in action after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury during training before the 1-1 Premier League draw with Burnley.

The talented attacker has since missed fixtures against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wrexham. His absence has been felt, particularly given the excitement around his early contributions at Chelsea.

Rosenior offered an optimistic update last week, confirming that Estevao has returned to work on the pitch.

“Estevao is back on the pitch, but he is not quite ready for this one,” Rosenior said.

“He just needs to clear a few more markers first, and we need to be careful with him given he’s had a hamstring injury. It will be a big boost to have him back with the group.”

Chelsea are hopeful that Estevao could return in the coming days, potentially featuring either in the Champions League clash with Paris Saint Germain or the Premier League meeting with Newcastle.

Jamie Gittens Closing in on Chelsea Return

Jamie Gittens has also been moving steadily towards a return to the Chelsea squad.

The winger has missed eight matches after suffering a hamstring tear during Chelsea’s 3-2 comeback victory over West Ham on January 31. It halted his momentum at an unfortunate moment, particularly after a difficult substitution during the Champions League victory over Napoli earlier that week.

Encouragingly for Chelsea, recent medical assessments have been positive.

“Jamie Gittens is getting really close [to a return] and he had a really positive scan,” Rosenior told reporters before the FA Cup tie against Wrexham.

“We hope that he can be back with the group within the next seven days or so.”

While the upcoming European fixture may arrive too soon, Chelsea expect Gittens to be available for selection in the league encounter with Newcastle.

Levi Colwill Long Term Chelsea Return Plan

Levi Colwill’s situation remains more measured. The defender has not played for Chelsea this season after sustaining a serious knee injury during pre season preparations.

Recovery continues steadily, with Rosenior emphasising patience as the priority.

“Yes he could [be back before the end of the season] but it’s step by step and I don’t want to make promises that I can’t keep,” the Chelsea head coach revealed.

“At the moment, Levi’s in a really good place. He’s on the right track but I don’t want to put pressure on him.

“I spoke to Levi this morning. He’s working so hard and what a professional he is. It’s been brilliant to see him back on the pitch running. He’s itching to get back but we need to make sure he feels 100 per cent perfect.

“He’s another outstanding player I can’t wait to work with and he’s in a really good place. I don’t like putting timeframes on injuries because it puts unnecessary pressure on players when their health is the most important thing.”

Chelsea hope Colwill could return before the end of the campaign, potentially adding depth to their defence during the closing weeks of the season.

Chelsea Squad Depth Key Ahead of Crucial Fixtures

For Chelsea, the coming weeks may shape the direction of their campaign. Progress in Europe, continued domestic ambitions, and the FA Cup all demand a squad capable of coping with pressure and intensity.

The gradual return of Estevao, Gittens and eventually Colwill offers encouragement. Fitness may not guarantee success, yet for Chelsea it restores something vital, options.
