Chelsea linked with impossible deal for €100m star

Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, according to a rumour reported by Catalan newspaper Sport.

The Blues are having another busy summer, with additions all over the park. But they’re clearly not done yet, and we expect many sales and a few new signings before all is said and done.

21 year old Casado has been superb for his boyhood club since breaking through as a teenager, and there’s no way that they would even consider selling him were it not for their serious financial issues which continue to make registering new players difficult for the Spanish giants.

Casado a tough target for Blues to track

Casado has a €100m release clause in his contract, which shows how highly rated he is. He’s also playing regularly for his favourites team, winning leagues and competing in the Champions League. It’s hard to see how Chelsea persuade him to give up on that.

His quality isn’t in doubt, however, as is his exceptional experience for a player of that age. This is not hte first time we’ve tried to sign him either – there were reports on the same deal back in March.

Casado deal feels unlikely for freshly restocked Chelsea midfield

We can’t see this one happening – despite Barca’s issues they’ll want to keep Casado at all costs, as an affordable home grown player. Chelsea also just don’t have the need in midfield to break the bank on another player. Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos have already arrived this summer to bring the depth we need.

It’s not impossible, and we’ve seen these sporting directors are never afraid to jump on an opportunity for a young talent regardless of the context, but right now we’d have to say it looks unlikely.
