Chelsea have made an approach to sign AC Milan’s Mike Maignan (29), according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.
It had been expected that Chelsea would not sign a goalkeeper this summer. Whilst Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failed to completely convince over the course of the last season, the tendency was for Enzo Maresca to continue to evaluate the options already at his disposal. Djordje Petrovic, who has excelled whilst on loan at RC Strasbourg Alsace, was another goalkeeper expected to vie for a place, with the upcoming FIFA World Cup seen as a kind of trial period for the Serbian.
However, it seems that the Blues are looking to try and sign a proven shotstopper in the form of AC Milan’s Maignan. Romano understands that Chelsea have made an approach to the Italian club. The France No.1 is yet to sign a contract extension with the Serie A side and his long-term future at the club is, therefore, uncertain. Maignan has featured highly on Chelsea’s shortlist and talks are now ongoing.
