Joao Pedro has the most Premier League goals of all the strikers bought last summer, and has quietly done really well in his first year.
This was the summer of striker purchases in the Premier League. A number of top clubs wanted new number 9s, and since then it’s been an endless competition to see who got the best player, and who got the best value.
Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike went to Liverpool. Benjamin Sesko went to Man U. Viktor Gyokeres went to Arsenal. Nick Woltemade went to Newcastle. Chelsea bought both Liam Delap AND Joao Pedro.

Of all of them, it’s JP who is doing best, by the numbers. He’s got 11 goals for the season in the Premier League, none of them from penalties.
Viktor Gyokeres’ efforts yesterday have only put him to 10, with 2 of them spot kicks. Ekitike has looked really good for Liverpool, but is still a goal short of Joao Pedro.
As for Sesko and Woltemade, they’re struggling a bit, and Isak has been injured.
There’s no denying that the Brazilian took a while to get going, but now he’s looking really strong. Enzo Maresca couldn’t quite figure him out and even ended up using him as a number 10 for a while. But Liam Rosenior seems to have the knack of putting him in the right spot. Even in the last two league games where we’ve had bad results, JP has done his bit.
All those goals and assists are adding up, and have made the Brazilian the Premier League’s most in form player, at least according to the stats.
Vincent Kompany is still trying to hint that Nicolas Jackson could stay at Bayern Munich after this season, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
