Jorrel Hato is the man of the hour after scoring a brilliant goal last night against Charlton, and he spoke to Chelsea TV after the game about his performance.
What was most notable – apart from his superb volley to open the scoring – was the way he was used by new manager Liam Rosenior. A left back when Chelsea defended, the Dutchman drifted forward into the left “half space” when the Blues were on the ball, and that was where he found himself when he scored the goal.

Jorrel Hato slams in a sweet volley.
“I enjoyed the game, it was a real cup tie and the role I played allowed me to get forward a lot, into pockets of space in and around the box,” the defender said.
“I enjoy being able to help offensively as well as defensively. It’s a new role for me, because during my time at Ajax I only ever played as a defender.
“[Enzo] Maresca wanted me to invert and join in attacks previously, and now the new manager has asked the same of me. It’s a new role but one I’m happy to do and I’m really enjoying the first few days under the gaffer.”

Hato lashed in a superb goal for the Blues last night, and it was very notable that he didn’t celebrate. He explained that decision to Chelsea TV after the game.
Liam Rosenior has only had a couple of days to work with his Chelsea team, and that’s going to be the case for pretty much the rest of the season as the games come thick and fast. He was asked about what his training priorities would be for the next few days.
