Another week of Premier League ticked off. We’re now 22 game weeks deep, heading further past the halfway mark.
Chelsea’s best players of the campaign so far, according to stats site WhoScored, are Wesley Fofana, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah.
If we had that trio starting every game together, we’d be far higher up the table. But Fofana has only managed to start 9 games in the league, and Caicedo 16.

The Blues have lost just one of the 9 games that Fofana started – and that was a match where they were reduced to ten men after 5 minutes.
His benefit to the team is obvious. He averages the most aerial duels won at 3.6 per game, beating even the tall Tosin at 3.3. Fofana is 9th in the whole league in that stat, and he has higher pass completion than anyone else in that category, showing much much of a well rounded player he is.
He’s formed a really solid partnership with Trevoh Chalobah, and that’s why it’s curious we’re chasing another defender for €60m+. We don’t need a new defender so much as the best one we have to stay on the pitch.
Given his medical record that’s not possible – but then how do we ever get a stable partnership to build off?
Chelsea’s subs against Brentford were important in regaining control of the game – we’re just not sure why Rosenior isn’t yet starting with Andrey Santos as part of the double pivot.
Joao Pedro scored at the weekend, but admitted his season so far hasn’t been “great.” We hope that coming back to fitness and a new attacking concept under Liam Rosenior will help him find his feet a little easier in the weeks to come.
