Chelsea have one foot in the Conference League final as they look to get the job done
Chelsea will look to confirm their spot in the Conference League final on Thursday as they host Swedish side Djurgarden in their semi-final second leg.
The Blues will take a comfortable three-goal cushion into the tie after winning the away leg 4-1. It was a near-flawless performance in Stockholm, though Isak Alemayehu’s consolation goal means a Djurgarden turnaround is not entirely out of the question.
Having beaten Premier League champions Liverpool last time out, Chelsea will come into the match with some momentum as they look to make good on their long-established status as the out-and-out favourites to lift the Conference League.
Now Cole Palmer has finally broken his extended goalscoring drought, with a penalty in the Liverpool win, Djurgarden’s task is made all the more daunting.
Djurgarden are enduring a difficult start to their domestic season, slumping to an uncharacteristic 11th in the Allsvenskan with six games played following a series of first-team injuries. A draw at home to second-placed AIK last time out hints the storm may be lifting, though overturning Chelsea’s lead will be a mighty task.
Chelsea vs Djurgarden is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
The match will take place at Stamford Bridge.

The most interesting injury headline of late at Chelsea is that Romeo Lavia has returned from his latest injury with impressive form despite an extended absence, but he is not in Chelsea’s Conference League squad and will not be able to participate in the tie.
Christopher Nkunku is expected to miss out after sustaining a knock in training ahead of the first leg. Enzo Maresca said he will miss 10 to 15 days, meaning he is unlikely to return to play until late May. Also absent is Marc Guiu, who is nearing a return from the groin injury he suffered on January transfer deadline day. Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended), Omari Kellyman (hamstring), and Wesley Fofana (hamstring) are all unavailable for selection.
The Conference League has served as a proving ground for Chelsea academy products, and Enzo Maresca will likely give the nod to Tyrique George, Josh Acheampong, and Reggie Walsh.
Djurgarden are facing something of an injury crisis early in their domestic campaign, with seven players reported to be unavailable for last weekend’s draw to AIK: Piotr Johansson, Mikael Marques, Oskar Fallenius, Nino Zugelj, Rasmus Schüller, Patric Åslund and Malkolm Nilsson Säfqvist. It will be a slight consolation for Djurgarden that none of these injuries are fresh - none of those ruled out for the AIK clash had been available for the first leg.
Chelsea have cruised to reach this stage of the Conference League. Even in losses to Servette and Legia Warsaw, few ever considered that they might be knocked out.
Their position as the competition’s favourites was rarely more credible than in the first leg against Djurgarden, where they cruised to a 1-4 win in which their hosts offered little attacking threat beyond an awkward set-piece.
While Djurgarden will dream of a remontada, they will realise the relative impossibility of turning over Chelsea’s three-goal lead.
