London derby Down Under in blockbuster pre-season clash

Fans in Australia will be treated to a London derby Down Under this morning as Chelsea and Tottenham face off in the Sydney Super Cup. It is the most high-profile friendly of the summer to date for these two teams, as Xabi Alonso and Robert De Zerbi embark on their first pre-season campaigns at their clubs.

For Chelsea, it the second public match of their summer, with the first seeing saw Xabi Alonso’s reign start with an entertaining 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. The line-up featured a number of academy players, and saw Dastan Satpayev mark his debut with a goal before Joao Pedro came on and scored a nine-minute hat-trick.

Spurs have made a more extension summer schedule thus far, and are unbeaten in three friendly fixtures, having beat MK Dons, Auckland FC and Sydney FC over the past fortnight. Highly-rated young midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett will be hoping for more minutes, but both James Maddison and Mateus Fernandes has been ruled out through injury.
