Chelsea want a £5 million fee from West Ham United after they asked about potentially signing Axel Disasi on a season-long loan, according to The Times journalist Gary Jacob.

The Blues also want West Ham to cover the 27-year-old’s salary as manager Graham Potter looks to bring him to the London Stadium today.

Nayef Aguerd is joining Marseille, and the Hammers want an immediate replacement before the 7.00pm transfer deadline this evening.

West Ham are also reportedly in talks to sign Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Igor Julio, but they face competition from Crystal Palace.

Disasi has now emerged as a more realistic target, and a deal could be on the cards if both clubs can reach an agreement in the coming hours.

The France international spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and would prefer to remain in the Premier League to boost his chances of going to the World Cup.

The former AS Monaco star can also feature at right-back, and he will fancy his chances of playing regularly for West Ham if he joins.

Potter needs all the depth he can get at the back after shipping eight goals in the opening two league games against Sunderland and Chelsea, and Disasi would be a solid addition.

The Hammers will be lining up several deals today in their final attempt to strengthen their squad, and twists and turns are expected.

They finally picked up their first three points of the season yesterday, putting Nottingham Forest to the sword at the City Ground.

However, Potter knows that the late 3-0 victory does not paper over the cracks in his squad, and he will look to make further quality additions in the coming hours.
