Former Chelsea Academy Player of the Year Harvey Vale is set to join Queens Park Rangers on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old forward was once considered one of the brightest talents to emerge from Chelsea’s famous Cobham academy.

However, after struggling to break into the first team, the England youth international is eager for a new challenge.

QPR have won the race for his signature, fending off interest from multiple clubs in England and Europe during the January transfer window.

Chelsea have reportedly waived a transfer fee in favour of a heavy sell-on clause and performance-based bonuses, making sure they can still be well compensated if he goes on to live up to expectations.

Vale is expected to complete his medical as early as Friday before the move is officially finalised.

His exit marks the end of a nine-year spell with Chelsea, having joined their Cobham academy as a 12-year-old.

He made a handful of senior appearances – most recently in the UEFA Europa Conference League under Enzo Maresca.

However, he has spent most of this season excelling in the Premier League 2 with the club’s development squad.

Vale’s contract was due to expire this summer. Chelsea had the option of extending his contract by an additional 12 months, but they chose to cut him loose permanently.

Now heading to a QPR side managed by Marti Cifuentes, Vale will aim to make an immediate impact as the team looks to push up the Championship table.

Vale has prior experience in the Championship with Hull City and also had a League One loan spell at Bristol Rovers.
