Chelsea are weighing up a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but the Blues value the defender at less than £50m according to Ben Jacobs.

The expectation was for Chelsea to be quiet in January in terms of incomings, but with injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile they have seemingly had to change their plans.

It now appears as if a new centre back could arrive at Stamford Bridge and the Blues are believed to have a number of options open to them.

It’s unclear how long Fofana will be out for given the Frenchman is saying one thing and the club are saying another, but the Blues have already recalled 19-year-old Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Boca Juniors.

It’s no secret Chelsea were in the market for a centre back even before the injury news, but whilst they previously may have waited to the summer it now looks like they may act this month.

Josh Acheampong impressed against Crystal Palace on his first Premier League start but it would be a huge gamble to rely on the 18-year-old as the Blues chase a return to Champions League football.

The Blues are open to Disasi leaving this month, and are weighing up a move for former player Guehi, who Palace valued at £70m in the summer, whilst recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan is another possibility.

Jacobs has provided an update on the Guehi situation and revealed what price the Blues value the 24-year-old at.

“Chelsea hold a concrete interest in re-signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi,” he wrote in his GIVEMESPORT column.

“There are no plans to pay the £70m his current employers wanted from Newcastle United over the summer, especially given the England international only has 18 months left on his current contract. Chelsea’s valuation is understood to be south of £50m.”

Joe Cole has urged the Blues to bing Guehi back, but doing a deal with Palace, especially in January could prove difficult.

Chelsea could use Chalobah as part of any potential deal to soften the blow for the Eagles, but it will be interesting to see how this develops over the next few weeks.
