A shocking defeat against Motherwell at Ibrox derailed Rangers in the Premiership race. But the hopes are not over, as they could still conquer the coveted crown with a winning streak in the four remaining fixtures. A tricky test awaits them on Monday night, as the Light Blues will travel to Edinburgh to clash heads with league leaders Hearts.
Rangers scripted a thumping 4-2 win when they locked horns at Ibrox earlier this year. However, the Jambos won the two previous ties, both home and away, with Lawrence Shankland netting the decisive goals. It remains to be seen how Danny Rohl’s men contain the fit-again Scottish hitman at Tynecastle.
Jack Butland was below par between the sticks against Motherwell. He is expected to retain his ‘number 1’ status, but should show more consistency, composure, weight, and accuracy in his distribution when playing it out from the back.

Persistent injury problems have plagued Dujon Sterling’s season. James Tavernier is set to depart by the end of this season, and with on-loan Max Aarons unlikely to be retained, Sterling should keep his place down the right if available on Monday. Tuur Rommens is closing in on a return, and the gaffer would make a late call on whether to deploy the left fullback from the start. John Souttar is nursing a knock, and Rohl would once again rely on Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez in the heart of the backline.
Connor Barron has suffered another injury setback, thus leaving the Gers with Nicolas Raskin and Tochi Chukwuani as the only outright deep-lying playmakers. Mohamed Diomande is an option, but the Ivorian is more effective as a ‘number 8’ for his ball-carrying ability and down-the-middle runs.
Although Rohl opted for an attacking 4-2-2-2 against Motherwell, lining them up in a 4-2-3-1 would offer more balance between defence and attack. Djeidi Gassama should be shifted down the right to make way for Mikey Moore, who has been exquisite with his flair, finesse and dribbling traits from the left-hand side. Thelo Aasgaard has demonstrated his creative spark in recent games, and the Norwegian must occupy the ‘number 10’ spot, shifting from his wide role. Andreas Skov Olsen and Oliver Antman could be involved from the bench to inject more firepower on the flanks.
Bojan Miovski was rewarded with a start last weekend for his exquisite scoring streak. But he might get dropped if Rohl decides to tweak the formation on the road. With Ryan Naderi sidelined, Youssef Chermiti must spearhead the frontline, having netted a hat-trick against Derek McInnes’ men in February.
