Giorgio Chiellini has some advice for Turkey international Kenan Yildiz ahead of the EURO 2024 quarter-final. ‘He is a special talent and should renew for five years with Juventus.’

The forward turned 19 in May, but already has 11 senior caps for his country and is starting tonight’s showdown with the Netherlands in Berlin.

“He is a special talent and my advice is for him to renew his contract for another five years with Juventus,” said former Bianconeri defender Chiellini on Sky Sport Italia.

“It is pretty simple in my mind, I think this is a growth process where he could get more space and play more. I was fascinated by Kenan Yildiz from the very first day, I had heard good things and then saw him play for the second team.

“It had been many years since I saw someone like this in the Juventus youth academy. Seeing how well he has developed and how happy he seems, there is no better place to keep growing. I don’t expect him to play every game, but he will get more consistency and has already done so much.”

He was poached for free from the Bayern Munich youth academy in 2022 and quickly climbed up the ranks to the Next Gen and then the senior Juventus squad in November 2023.

Kenan Yildiz has made 32 appearances for the senior Juventus squad in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

It was put to Chiellini that Italian football in general is too slow to launch young players into the first team, which has a knock-on effect for the Italy squad, especially as the Azzurrini are successful at Under-20, Under-19 and Under-17 levels.

“I got into the Livorno squad at 16 and a half. I made my mistakes, I had to show what I could do, I slowly earned confidence. Evidently, the likes of Lamine Yamal show the right attitude from the start.”
