Chiesa Staying at Liverpool Despite Some Late Offers | OneFootball

Federico Chiesa turned down the opportunity to depart Liverpool after deadline day. Besiktas and some Saudi teams have been tracking him recently. The winger has never been particularly eager to flee Anfield. He didn’t change his mind after being excluded from the Champions League list, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The 27-year-old has featured in the first three Premier League matches, although coming off the bench late, and scored in the opener. However, it hasn’t been enough for him to significantly improve his status. He was cut for the continental matches, as there wasn’t enough room for everybody. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter and Napoli pursued Chiesa in previous months, but not too convincingly. They offered to bring him in on initial loans. Under those conditions, the winger preferred staying put to try to convince Arne Slot.

The former Fiorentina and Juventus star is under contract with Liverpool for four more years and will pocket €6.2M net annually, which was a factor in his decision. Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso stated that his absence from the first call-ups was agreed upon, as the attacker didn’t feel totally ready physically.

When you reach certain levels, it’s hard to accept a step down, even if you’re not a regular. Kudos to him for taking on the challenge, but if the situation doesn’t change, he should reconsider in January. A place in the Azzurri XI is waiting for him if he finds some consistency. The Serie A sides should have tried a little harder, even though his wages are bulky for the league standards, and his injury history dictates precaution.
