Chivas fights back for a point in Puebla | OneFootball

Puebla.- Despite controlling the match from start to finish and creating plenty of scoring chances, Guadalajara couldn't find the finishing touch and failed to turn its dominance into three points, settling for a 1-1 draw with Puebla on Friday night at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Matchday 3 of the Apertura 2026.

Chivas put together an outstanding first-half performance, pressing high and moving the ball with pace and precision to create a steady stream of dangerous opportunities. However, Gabriel Milito's side couldn't capitalize in front of goal and found itself chasing the game after Eduardo Mustre gave Puebla the lead in the 25th minute following a loose ball inside the box.

True to their identity, our Rojiblancos came out flying after halftime with one goal in mind: getting back into the match. Even with several outstanding saves by Puebla's goalkeeper, a handful of near misses and another effort that dramatically crashed off the crossbar, Chivas kept pushing and finally found its reward in the 63rd minute. Roberto Alvarado produced a moment of pure brilliance, cutting past his defender before curling a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner.

After leveling the score, El Rebaño grew even stronger and kept pushing forward, forcing Puebla deep into its own half. Milito's tactical adjustments also played a key role, as the introductions of Efraín Álvarez—who set up Alvarado's goal—and Omar Govea gave Chivas fresh energy and control during the closing stages of the match.

Just as Guadalajara looked ready to complete the comeback, heavy rain poured down and quickly left the field waterlogged, making it difficult to move the ball and forcing both teams to battle the challenging conditions. In the end, the match finished in a 1-1 draw.

Following the result, Guadalajara will return home before packing its bags for the United States, where it will kick off its Leagues Cup 2026 campaign on Wednesday, August 5, against LAFC at BMO Stadium.
