Cristian Chivu could change the formation for Inter Milan against Urawa Red Diamonds due to an injury crisis.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, anticipate that the Nerazzurri could line up in a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2 shape in the Club World Cup group stage clash.

Inter Milan take on Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds this evening. It will be the Nerazzurri’s second match of the Club World Cup group stage, after a 1-1 draw with Monterrey in their opener.

And Inter coach Cristian Chivu will have to work around a number of injuries.

All of Yann Bisseck, Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, and Piotr Zielinski are absent. Moreover, Marcus Thuram is also on the sidelines.

Furthermore, Thuram is not the only striker missing for Inter Milan.

Mehdi Taremi is not absent due to injury, though. Rather, the Iranian is stuck in his home country amid the escalating conflict with Israel.

This leaves Chivu with relatively few options in attack. Aside from Lautaro Martinez, there are just Sebastiano Esposito and his brother Francesco Pio Esposito, who is back from a knee injury.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, one solution that Chivu has toyed with is switching the formation.

In particular, an idea from the Inter coach would be employing a 3-4-2-1 system. This would see Sebastiano Esposito and Nicola Zalewski play as attacking midfielders behind Lautaro Martinez.
