The German striker was omitted from Blues' squad for the impressive win over Wrexham

Birmingham City ended a run of four Championship matches without a victory on Sunday lunchtime, as Chris Davies' side emerged deserved victors over Wrexham at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

Although the Red Dragons were presented with a strong opportunity to pile the pressure on the sides above them in the play-off race after learning the results across the second tier on Saturday afternoon, it was Blues who took control of the encounter, particularly in the second half, and were rewarded through goals from Carlos Vicente and Christoph Klarer.

Having seen his position as manager come under scrutiny once more in recent weeks due to a prior accumulation of one point from a possible 12, Davies was certainly pleased at the end of the match which, over time, has been dubbed the 'Hollywood derby' in reference to both Birmingham and Wrexham being owned by high-profile American investors.

Ultimately, it was three points which doesn't do much for the West Midlands side's season as a whole, as their hopes of reaching the play-offs at Championship level for the first time in 14 years were effectively ended prior to the international break, and they currently sit in 15th place, having accumulated 56 points thus far.

Given the situation the club are currently in, supporters have called for Davies to be more experimental with his lineups in the season's final weeks ahead of a crucial summer period, in which some believe a change in the dugout still has to be made.

However, there was one omission from his squad against the Welsh side which required further explanation in his post-match press conference.

In both of Blues' last two matches, supporters have seen way more of January signing, August Priske, than they had in the weeks leading up to the international break, with the young Danish striker making the majority of his 13 Championship appearances for the club so far as a substitute.

However, that has seen top scorer, Marvin Ducksch, initially dropped from the starting lineup for the 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Easter Monday, before being omitted entirely from the matchday squad against Phil Parkinson's outfit.

Since signing from Werder Bremen for £1.75m on a three-year contract in August, the 32-year-old and two-time German international has divided opinion, but has still been able to provide 11 goals in all competitions across 35 appearances.

However, Davies revealed that the reason behind his decision not to include Ducksch in the squad against Wrexham was due to an 'internal matter'.

“It’s an internal matter which is currently being dealt with and that is, at this moment in time, all I can say," said the Blues boss.

When asked if the forward will be a part of his squad which travels to Hull City on Saturday afternoon, he further explained: "“At this moment in time, we need to assess everything and see where we go."

Marvin Ducksch could have already played his last game for Birmingham City amid exit talk

Last month, speculation came to the fore that Ducksch had emerged as a summer target for the likes of AEK Athens and Real Sociedad, whilst a plethora of clubs from across Europe and the MLS are also said to be monitoring his situation.

The German has been an intriguing watch this season, having the ability to step up to the plate with big goals in games, despite also, at times, being largely anonymous in general play.

It, of course, now remains to be seen what the future holds for the striker in the coming days and the future, but it has been intensely speculated as to whether he may have already played his final match for Blues.
