Igor Tudor is reportedly set to leave as Tottenham interim manager, with Chris Hughton under consideration to replace him before next month’s trip to Sunderland.
According to TeamTalk, Tudor is expected to leave by mutual consent after weeks of internal talks, with an agreement to act if Spurs lost to Nottingham Forest. The report adds he is ready to step aside after the death of his father, Mario.
Tudor succeeded Thomas Frank last month, starting with a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal. He has taken one point from five league matches, a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
A 3-2 home win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 could not rescue a tie lost 5-2 in the first leg. Spurs then returned with a 3-0 home loss to fellow strugglers Forest, leaving them one point and one place above the drop zone.
Spurs are lining up alternatives, with former Monaco manager Adi Hutter and ex-Newcastle boss Hughton said to be viable options.
Hughton made over 300 Spurs appearances and spent 14 years on the staff in various coaching roles. He left in February 2008 to join Newcastle as first-team coach, became permanent boss just over a year later, and remains the last manager to deliver a home Tyne-Wear derby win in October 2010.
If Spurs make a change, the incoming interim’s first match would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12, with the Black Cats chasing Europe and keen to increase the visitors’ relegation concerns.
