Christian Kofane to miss Bayern clash | OneFootball

Christian Kofane will miss Bayer Leverkusen's DFB Pokal semi-final after the striker picked up a thigh injury, according to Sport Bild. The 19-year-old has been a valuable player for Kasper Hjulmand's side this season and was expected to start against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

This will be just the second time all season that Kofane will be outside of Leverkusen's squad on a matchday. He previously missed January's 4-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart while on international break with Cameroon.

Kofane joined from second-tier Spanish side Albacete last summer and has emerged as one of the most promising strikers in the world. He currently has seven goals and eight assists in all competitions. Only Patrick Schick and Alejandro Grimaldo have more goal contributions for Leverkusen this season.

Leverkusen have played Bayern Munich twice this season, but have yet to win. Kofane came off the bench in both, with Leverkusen losing 3-0 in November and earning a 1-1 draw in March.

Czech striker Patrik Schick is the likely candidate to replace Kofane. Schick started and played all 90 minutes against Mainz last weekend, scoring the opener in a 2-1 win.

The DFB Pokal is Bayer Leverkusen's last chance to win a trophy this season. A seemingly unstoppable Bayern Munich side, fresh off clinching the Bundesliga title last weekend, will be a difficult task for Hjulmand's side, especially without Kofane.
