Manchester City are delighted to announce the signing of exciting teenage attacker Iman Beney, subject to international clearance and obtaining a work visa.

A fully fledged Swiss international, the 18-year-old moves to the Joie Stadium after an incredible campaign in her native Switzerland, where she helped BSC Young Boys Frauen win the league title.

Beney played a starring role in that success, scoring the decisive penalty in a shootout win over GC Zurich, which sealed a first domestic crown for Young Boys since 2011.

The youngster finished 2024/25 with nine goals in 22 appearances, earning her a spot in the Swiss Super League Team of the Season in the process.

A dynamic and skilful player with an eye for goal, Beney has also enjoyed huge success on an international front in her young career.

Named in the Women’s Under-17 European Championship Team of the Tournament in May 2023, she was then selected to represent Switzerland at the FIFA World Cup that summer at just 16 years old.

An Anterior Cruciate Ligament rupture meant she missed out on the tournament, but Beney has since returned to become a regular in the Swiss national team, often playing as a right wing-back.

But after success in her native Switzerland, the 18-year-old is looking forward to a new chapter in her career at City.

Speaking about the news, Iman said: "I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to start the new season with Manchester City. I had a good feeling with Therese [Sjogran], and I think City is the best solution to help develop me as a player.

“They have good ambition for next season, and, for my development, City is the best place. They are a club who like to keep possession, and I really like to have the ball, so I think it’s a good fit.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Young Boys who has helped me on my journey so far.”

Manchester City Women’s Director of Football Therese Sjogran added: “Iman is a player we’ve been monitoring for a while now and we’re delighted to bring her in.

“She’s a really exciting young talent who we believe has the potential to thrive here at City and on the world stage.

“From speaking to her it’s clear she’s keen to improve on her already impressive talents, and we think she’s a great fit for our squad on and off the pitch.

“She can become a really important player for City, both now and in the future.

Exciting teenage talent

It takes courage to step up and take a penalty, even more so in a shootout.

And when you then add in the potential of your spot-kick winning the league title - your club’s first in 14 years – that pressure to score weighs heavier than ever.

That’s the situation Iman Beney found herself in when stepping up for BSC Young Boys Frauen in the 2024/25 Swiss Super League play-off final against GC Zurich.

But at just 18, City’s new recruit stood up to the challenge, converting from 12 yards to end 14 years of hurt.

It was just rewards for a youngster who had lit up the Swiss top flight having recovered from an ACL rupture that had ruled her out of a spot in Switzerland’s 2023 World Cup squad at just 16.

Despite her tender years Beney firmly established herself as a key cog in Young Boys’ free-flowing machine.

Alongside two of her fellow attacking players, our new number 24 was named in the 2024/25 SAFP Golden 11 – the Swiss Super League Team of the Year - as Young Boys finished the campaign with the best attacking record in the division.

Beney contributed eight in 21 league appearances, with some of those strikes demonstrating the kind of dynamic movement and skill that’s made her such an exciting young talent.

Already possessing an excellent turn of pace and close control, the 18-year-old is also willing to take players on, as demonstrated by a cheeky nutmeg on Caitlin Foord during an international friendly against Australia at the end of 2024.

It was an audacious move that paid off, and another example of Beney showing she belongs against the best in the business.

Had she not suffered a rupture to her ACL in the summer of 2023 she would surely have made more than the 10 senior international appearances to her name so far, and it’s a safe bet to assume she’ll feature for the Swiss at Euro 2025, where they’re a host nation.

Switzerland don’t go into the tournament as one of the favourites but, with a home crowd backing them all the way, never rule out an underdog.

And in Beney, who has also played at right-back for her home nation, they have a talent who can handle the pressure of the big stage.

Every City fan, not just the Swiss, will be watching on eagerly from around the world to see what the future holds.
