Pep preview

"It's the beginning of the season. In sport and life, this is what happens. In the past good or bad things, it’s forgotten.

"We start the season, that’s our feeling.

"We saw [Wydad AC's] games against Porto and Sevilla, the friendlies, in both they played really good.

"They had many chances and both were tight games. [I was] Impressed by their physicality and the defensive structure."

Nico Preview

“We’re all really excited to start in the FIFA Club World Cup and we really want to start the match well in these type of competitions that are really short.

“The first match is so important. It’s massive, so it’s going to be maybe the most important match to start really well with the competition and if we win, everything is going to be easier.

“We have only three matches to qualify. So if you don’t start well in the first match, everything’s going to be much more difficult.

“But I think we are in a really good shape and everyone is in a really good mood and confident.”

Last time out

City beat Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage on the final day of the 2024/25 season to clinch third place in the Premier League – and so confirm our place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

A spectacular first half overhead kick from Ilkay Gundogan had sent the Blues in at the break holding a crucial first half advantage.

And victory was then secured mid-way through the second half when Erling Haaland despatched a penalty after Gundogan had been brought down in the box.
