Leicester City are suffering a worrying run of form.

The Foxes arrived back in the Championship after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign back in the Premier League, which saw them become the division’s first team to lose eight top-flight games in a row without scoring a single goal.

Under the new management of Marti Cifuentes, Leicester looked to have adapted to life in the second-tier well, winning three out of their first four matches to establish themselves as early promotion contenders.

However, the Foxes have won just one Championship match in their last nine outings, a run that stretches back to the end of August and includes a current run of three successive defeats.

This run of form has seen Leicester slip down the table, away from the promotion-paying positions and instead into the latter half of the competition, which isn’t what anyone at the King Power Stadium would’ve expected going into the season.

Naturally, fingers have started to be pointed at Cifuentes for his system, with some fans believing that a change of manager is what is needed for the Foxes to turn around their current poor run of form.

The 43-year-old joined Leicester in the summer after leaving his position at QPR, with his tactical prowess and playing style impressing the higher-ups at the King Power Stadium.

Results haven’t been forthcoming however, which means that some supporters are already running out of patience with the Spaniard. Despite this, Football League World’s Leicester City fan pundit, Louchlainn Martin, believes that Cifuentes should be afforded more time to turn things around.

“Marti Cifuentes is under a lot of pressure from fans at the moment,” stated Louchlainn. “I'm sure there's some pressure internally as well.

“I would like him to stay. I don't think he has had a fair shot at the rebuild that he has said himself we need at the club. He's only actually had one day of transfers, one day of a transfer window, and that was deadline day when we started to bring in the outfield players.

“I trust that Marti has an eye for a player and has the eye to bring in the right players. That's why I would like to see him given more funds and backed by the club in January or next summer, whenever the plan is to spend.

“There have been serious flaws in the system in recent weeks and I think changes are needed on that front. I know a lot of Leicester fans aren't happy and don't have faith, but I do have that faith still. I think we should give him more time as long as we stay up this season.”

Marti Cifuentes must start picking up wins to keep Leicester City job

As Louchlainn mentioned, Cifuentes has had to battle with a number of external factors whilst in charge of Leicester City, including a lack of activity in the transfer market, which has directly translated to struggles on the pitch.

However, Leicester still possesses enough talent within their squad to compete at the top of the Championship and certainly shouldn’t be going through such a patchy run of form as they currently are.

Only Cifuentes can turn this situation around and picking up three points more often will go a long way to improving his job security at the King Power Stadium.
