Clear voice from Weghorst management: ‘He will go to that club’ | OneFootball

Wout Weghorst could return to Turkey next summer, according to Mithat Halis, who works for the agency to which the Ajax striker is affiliated.

Weghorst played a six-month loan spell in the 2022-23 season in the Süper Lig for Besiktas. Last summer, a return to the Black Eagles seemed possible. “We pointed out Weghorst to Besiktas last summer. However, the vice-president insisted that they get Ciro Immobile,” Halis said in a broadcast of Radyospor.

The Turkish advocate speaks highly of the 32-year-old Dutchman, who, according to him, could have gone for a top transfer to Italy last summer. “Weghorst is an Oranje international. Everyone has seen the goals he scored at the World Cup and what he can do. Before Ajax he would go to AC Milan, but they did not complete the deal,” he reveals.

Halis does not rule out a quick departure of Weghorst from Ajax. “Weghorst can come to Turkey this summer. He can play for any team. Let them reach an agreement with Ajax, and Weghorst will come and play at the top level”, is the message. “Weghorst is better than Alvaro Morata… He also fits perfectly in the structure of Galatasaray . You can put him next to Osimhen. Those two strikers would complement each other.”

The other Turkish top clubs are also seen as options. “He can do what Dzeko does at Fenerbahçe, he is the ideal player to replace him. He would also be very productive at Trabzonspor, but he wants to play for a club in Istanbul. Weghorst would come. Whoever reaches an agreement with Ajax, he will go to that club”, predicts the agent. “But it is not easy to reach an agreement with Ajax. He has a permanent contract.”

Ajax picked up Weghorst from Burnley last summer for around 2.35 million euros. The strong striker already proved to be worth his weight in gold, although an injury kept him out for a while. Last Sunday he helped Francesco Farioli’s team past Willem II (1-2). In 19 Eredivisie matches, he scored eight goals and registered two assists.
