According to L'Équipe, Clément Turpin has been named the IFFHS world referee of the year for 2025, finishing ahead of François Letexier and Szymon Marciniak. Marciniak won in 2022 and 2023, Letexier in 2024.
The Frenchman, who officiated Inter Milan’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona that finished 4-3 after extra time, tops the federation’s annual ranking, established in 1984.
Turpin has featured in the top 10 since 2019, including third in 2023, and now claims first place for outstanding displays in continental competitions, marked by control, calm and notable positioning.
In the women’s list, Stéphanie Frappart is second. The five-time winner from 2019 to 2023 sits behind Italian Maria Sole Ferreri Caputi, the first woman to referee in Serie A.
The IFFHS points tally places Turpin on 65, with Letexier and Marciniak on 55. Michael Oliver ranks fifth on 53.
