Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot are set for a Franco-American takeover, as per a report from L’Équipe

Seven years ago, Ahmet Schaefer bought the club for €4m. He presided over the club’s rise from Ligue 2 in 2021. The club spent three seasons in the top-flight, finishing as high as eighth in 2023, before finishing rock bottom the following year. Clermont Foot have not come close to promotion back to Ligue 1 since, finishing 16th two seasons ago and 13th last season.

The Swiss owner has been looking to sell the club since January, L’Équipe understands. Franco-American buyers have entered the fray. The takeover is being led by Jacques d’Arrigo, the former Commercial director of Girondins de Bordeaux.

As per L’Équipe, an agreement for the takeover has been reached. The deal is so close that the new owners and are organising the sporting sector at the Ligue 2 club and are set to hire Baptiste Drouet, formerly of FC Nantes, as the sporting director.
