Barcelona icon Carles Puyol has this weekend revealed his admiration for a current member of the defensive ranks in Catalunya’s capital.

The player in question? Ronald Araújo.

Stopper Araújo is for his part of course sidelined at present, owing to an injury suffered whilst on international duty with Uruguay during the summer.

Upon his return, though, the 25-year-old is expected to quickly put himself in a position to battle it out for starting duties once more.

And one individual of the opinion that Hansi Flick’s side will be all the better for as much comes in the form of the aforementioned Carles Puyol.

Speaking during an interview with Uruguayan outlet Ovación, as cited by Diario Sport, this weekend, ex-defender Puyol was inevitably asked for his take on the talents possessed by Araújo.

And the Barcelona legend was not shy in confirming his admiration for the current Blaugrana stopper, explaining:

“For me he is a very good player. He is one of the best defenders in the world. I think everyone has to make their career, but we can have similarities in terms of the game.”
