Manchester United and Brentford are officially in talks to try and hash out a deal that sees Bryan Mbeumo move to Old Trafford.

It comes after David Ornstein broke the news that Mbeumo prioritised a switch to the Red Devils over the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, despite the three suitors providing him the opportunity to play Champions League football for the first-ever time in his career.

Indeed, the 25-year-old forward was simply drawn to the prospect of representing the 20-time champions whilst plying his trade at the Theatre of Dreams. Now, it’s up to the two sides to make it happen.

Ben Jacobs has confirmed today that ‘club-to-club talks’ are officially underway between Brentford and United, with the former holding out for a fee of £50 million to sanction their talisman’s exit following his career-best campaign.

Mbeumo broke the 20-goal barrier for the first time in the Premier League throughout 2024/2025, ensuring he did so with a goal in the Bees’ 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day. He also recorded eight assists in the 38 appearances he made, having started every game.

Why Brentford have been left disgruntled over Mbeumo debacle

The Brentford board are said to feel aggrieved at how the situation has played out, though.

MailSport claims the club are ‘less than impressed’ over Mbeumo’s preference becoming public knowledge, leaving them ‘backed into a corner’ to meet his wishes — whilst also giving United a considerable bargaining chip to potentially lowball in their opening proposals.

Additionally, the West London outfit view the Cameroonian in the same category as Matheus Cunha, whom United have agreed to pay £62.5m for after activating his release clause with Wolves, albeit the fee will paid in instalments over two years.
