Maurizio Sarri was linked with the AC Milan job last summer and during the winter as well as in years prior. Now, things could come full circle.
According to Calciomercato.com, Milan are engaged in a season finale that sees them hopeful of lifting a second trophy. Meanwhile, the management are working on two specific tasks: finding the right sporting director, and then a new head coach.
Sergio Conceicao has a chance to lift a trophy for the second time in just a few months, leading to suggestions he now has a chance of staying, even if it remains unlikely. Every decision will be made at the end of the year, together with whoever will be appointed as the director.
In any case, the direction taken by Milan for some time is to open a new course, a new era together with an Italian coach, who knows Serie A inside out. It must be a coach who has wonm and whose single objective is success on the national and international stage.
Among the profiles being evaluated are usual suspects like Massimiliano Allegri, Antonio Conte, Gian Piero Gapserini, Carlo Ancelotti, Vincenzo Italiano and Roberto De Zerbi. However, another name is gaining momentum: Maurizio Sarri.
The former Juventus, Napoli and Chelsea coach is among the profiles to be taken into strong consideration. He was sought in the past by the Rossoneri, before the farewell of Paulo Fonseca and the arrival of Conceicao, and is also in the sights of Fiorentina and Atalanta.
Sarri is waiting for the right call and the right opportunity to test himself at the highest level. The idea of doing so with a club like Milan – who have a burning desire for a resurgence after a difficult season – seems to be a good fit.
