According to AS, Eray Cömert sparked a post-derby melee at Orriols by grabbing a corner flag and sprinting towards the Valencia end as their fans celebrated the win.
The act triggered a flare-up in the corner where Valencia’s players had gathered, drawing in footballers from both teams and Levante staff.
Levante employees and players reacted immediately when Cömert set off towards that section with the flag, while other Valencia players moved to intervene.
The confrontation led to objects being thrown from the stands at Valencia players and their supporters, and some bottles were hurled back across the same area.
Later, Manu Sánchez said the celebration was overly effusive and could have been avoided given Levante’s difficult situation in the relegation zone, adding that more respect was needed.
Valencia captain César Tárrega agreed, saying respect was due on the home side’s pitch, that celebrations should have been more restrained, and that they were sorry if the act upset Levante’s fans and players, while wishing them luck.
