Eray Cömert has gone from winter-window afterthought to a fixture under Carlos Corberán, stringing together six consecutive LaLiga starts.
His deal runs until 30 June 2026 and the club are not ruling out an extension, according to Superdeporte.
The turning point came on 24 January against Espanyol at Mestalla. Until then he had started one of the first 20 league games, logging 115 minutes and sitting behind César Tárrega, José Copete and Mouctar Diakhaby. With Unai Núñez arriving too late to train and receive his transfer, he watched from the directors’ box and Cömert started.
Cömert was named MVP, coupling firm defending with a goal that put Valencia ahead at 2-1 in a fraught moment. He has since begun against Espanyol, Real Betis, Real Madrid, Levante, Villarreal and Osasuna, the last of which saw Tárrega dropped by choice. With Copete and Diakhaby injured, his rise has coincided with a tighter back line.
His influence has stretched beyond the pitch. Before kick-off against Osasuna he led the pre-match huddle before captain José Luis Gayà spoke, and Corberán has cited him, alongside Largie Ramazani and Stole Dimitrievski, as an example for squad players such as Dani Raba to stay ready.
Support has followed in the stands, a turnaround after early errors put him under fire. Few expected his return from loans at Nantes and Valladolid after the sales of Cristhian Mosquera and Yarek Gasiorowski, yet he was applauded at Mestalla, not only for his controversial celebration in the Ciutat derby. With Alavés up this weekend, he looks likely to start again, and Valencia have taken three wins with two clean sheets in their last six outings.
