Eray Cömert is Valencia’s sole representative at the World Cup, which starts this evening in Mexico, despite his contract expiring on 30 June.
According to AS, the centre-back will leave when his deal ends and the club are not considering a renewal.
The Club Benefits Programme for the World Cup will pay €9,321 for each day he is at the tournament. With Switzerland’s final group match on 24 June, Valencia will receive around €300,000 during that period.
If Switzerland reached the final, Valencia could receive about €500,000, although that would not apply because Cömert’s contract ends on 30 June and from then he would be a free agent.
That figure could double if Argentina were to call up Guido Rodríguez, whose situation is identical as his contract also expires at the end of the month and has not been extended.
Another quirk of this World Cup is Spain’s squad contains no Valencia players, a first since the World Cup of 20414. Midfielder Javi Guerra was in the 55-man long list and was among nine players who helped the national team in Las Rozas last week.
