Ashley Cole has backed former Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard for the Premier League Hall of Fame after the latter’s nomination in 2025.

Hazard is one of 15 players shortlisted for potential entry into the Hall of Fame this year. The Belgian scored 110 goals in 358 games during a decorated spell at Chelsea, in which Hazard won two league titles among his six major honours.

He was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2014/15 after claiming the Young Player equivalent a year earlier.

Cole was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024 and is one of five former Chelsea players included, alongside Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr Cech and John Terry.

Cole is in doubt that Hazard also deserves inclusion, admitting Chelsea were often referred to as a ‘one-man team’ during the winger’s brilliant peak.

“Eden was a player that had the ability to change a game within a second,” Cole told Chelsea’s official website.

“You’d give him the ball, trust him with the ball and he could turn left, right or take on three or four players and he had end product.

“One of the best players in the Premier League; he produced a lot of magic moments, wonderful goals. People refer to Eden as a one-man team, you don’t often get spoken about like that.

“He defined the way a winger receives the ball. As a coach now, I look at players, can they receive facing forwards? Eden always received the ball with his back to goal, and he was so effective.”
