The 34-year-old official got promoted to professional league Serie C in 2017-18 after three seasons in Serie D.
In 2021, he officiated his first Serie B match, and in December of the same year, he made his Serie A debut in a 2-2 draw between Torino and Empoli.
His first big match in Italy’s top flight was in March 2023, a 2-0 Napoli win over Atalanta at the Stadio Maradona.
He became an international referee in December 2023 and collected 16 appearances in Italy’s top flight in the 2023-24 campaign.
The Italian official made his international debut at Wembley Stadium in London on October 10, 2024, overseeing a Nations League game between England and Greece, which the visitors won 2-1.

In March 2025, he received the ‘Stefano Farina Award’ for the 2024-25 season as the best emerging referee in Serie A.
Colombo has yet to make his debut in the league phase of the Champions League, but has officiated one qualification game between Qarabag FK and Shelbourne this past July, as well as the Youth League Final between Trabzonspor and Barcelona last season.
Colombo has made 47 Serie A appearances, showing 277 yellow cards and six straight red cards, as reported by Transfermarkt.
