Since gaining promotion to Serie A, Como have become used to making statement signings during transfer window. While that does attract criticism, they seem to have another plan which can potentially rock the top flight.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso has emerged as a target for Cesc Fabregas’ side.
Initial approaches for the Italy international have already been made but the deal is expected to be complex. This is mainly because Juve aren’t looking to make things easy for them, with Cambiaso emerging as a key player for Luciano Spalletti.
Como would need to pay up a fee that Juve simply can’t reject, especially since there is also growing interest from Premier League sides. Only Juve’s failure to qualify for the Champions League can be a game-changer for Como, who are also exploring a move for Bologna’s Niccolo Cambiaghi.
Even if Cambiaso might be appealed by a move to England, Como can present a very viable destination. Fabregas appears to be a big fan of his versatile nature and how he is quick to operate in different positions in different phases of play.
The Spaniard’s setup corresponds to that, as players constantly change positions, move fluidly and try to catch the opposition off-guard. A role like Cambiaso will bring the most out of the versatile full-back, amidst the growing possibility of the Ligurians’ European qualification at some point in the future.
