West Ham’s preparations for their trip to Arsenal have been overshadowed by another injury concern, with Nuno Espirito Santo confirming that midfielder George Earthy will be sidelined for up to six weeks. The 21-year-old academy graduate, promoted to the senior squad after an impressive loan with Bristol City, has suffered a hamstring issue.

Earthy had already endured an ankle ligament problem in pre-season that denied him the chance to join the club’s tour of the United States. Now he faces another spell on the sidelines just as Nuno is trying to settle into his role as head coach.
“Today we worked with 22 players, and tomorrow we make the decisions. Let’s wait and see,” Nuno said. “With the exception of George (Earthy), all the players are available. Four to six weeks, unfortunately. Young lads are so important for us. They bring this energy, so we expect George to return soon.”
Suspension continues to rule out Tomas Soucek following his red card against Tottenham, but Nuno was cautious when discussing whether James Ward-Prowse or Jean-Clair Todibo would be recalled after missing the Everton match.

“We are trying to know the players better as soon as possible, so we can make solutions,” Nuno explained. “The mindset is on what the team needs, and we need all the squad. Todibo trained last week, he didn’t train all the session. He was not involved, now he’s involved. Let’s wait and see.”

One positive for the Hammers is the return of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The right-back has missed three games with a stomach issue but is now back in contention. His influence was underlined last season when he was voted West Ham’s Player of the Year, registering two goals and five assists in 36 Premier League appearances.

Wan-Bissaka’s availability comes as a significant lift for Nuno as he looks to rebuild defensive solidity after inheriting a struggling side from Graham Potter. With Arsenal looming, the timing of his return could prove crucial.
West Ham’s season has been marked by inconsistency and misfortune, but Nuno’s updates underline the balancing act he faces. Injuries to key players threaten rhythm, yet the return of Wan-Bissaka offers encouragement. Arsenal, formidable at home, present an early test of whether Nuno can quickly instil organisation and belief in a squad still adjusting to change.
