Conmebol has switched the venue for UCV v Santos in the Copa Sudamericana play-offs, moving next Tuesday’s first leg to Estadio Misael Delgado in Valencia, according to Diario Do Peixe.

The tie had been scheduled for the UCV Olympic Stadium in Caracas. Valencia is about 170 kilometres away and was less affected by last month’s earthquake that devastated Venezuela. The ground is regularly used by Puerto Cabello.

The change alters Santos’s logistics. The return is on Tuesday 28 at 21:30 at Vila Belmiro. Both matches will be shown on SBT, ESPN, Disney+ and Dsports.

Santos have expressed solidarity with the country after strong earthquakes, which caused the death of 18-year-old opposition midfielder Yimvert Berroterán.

If the Alvinegro advance to the last 16, they will face Maracá of Ecuador.

Santos finished second in Group D with 7 points, the lowest of the runners-up, with one win, four draws and one defeat, scoring 8 and conceding 6. Recoleta of Paraguay topped the group on 8, with San Lorenzo on 7 and Deportivo Cuenca on 6.

UCV came third in Libertadores Group H with 9 points, three wins and three defeats, scoring 7 and conceding 11, behind Rosario Central and Independente Del Vale on 13, with Libertad on zero. Founded in 1950 in Caracas, the club usually play at the Estadio Olímpico, capacity 20,000.
