Conor Coady is keen on leaving Leicester City for Rangers, and he is hoping a deal can be finalised this week.
Leicester City defender Conor Coady is keen to join Rangers, and he is set to ask the Foxes hierarchy to be left out of their pre-season tour in order to complete a deal.
It’s no secret that the Glasgow side are keen to do a deal for the 32-year-old, with Russell Martin believed to have made Coady a prime target after his appointment at Ibrox.
However, despite constant speculation, Coady remains a Leicester player as of now, with the two clubs yet to come to an agreement.
Whilst the new season is weeks away for the Foxes, the lack of activity is more of a pressing issue for Rangers, as they begin their campaign next week with a tough Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos.
With so much at stake, they will be looking to finalise the switch quickly, and the Daily Record has revealed that Coady is hoping to get the transfer completed in order for him to feature in that game.
They say he will reiterate to Leicester that he wants to join Rangers, and he is hopeful a broad agreement can be quickly agreed, to ensure he doesn’t have to go on the pre-season tour to Austria with the Championship side.
Then, there is hope the move could be sorted this week, which would give the ex-England international time to meet his new teammates before the visit of Panathinaikos.
The report explains that the move has been held up because of the uncertainty that has been at Leicester throughout the summer.
Marti Cifuentes was finally named as the new Leicester boss on Tuesday evening, and it has been reported that he will have to sell players before he can buy in this window.
Obviously, Rangers want this done as soon as possible, and you can understand why they are frustrated, but the reality is that Leicester won’t be bothered about that.
They have to make the best decision for the football club, and with Coady still under contract at the King Power Stadium, it’s understandable that they will allow Cifuentes to make the final call.
Having said that, if Coady is desperate to leave, then it makes little sense to keep him at the club, and shifting the former Wolves man off the wage bill isn’t going to do Leicester any harm considering their financial situation.
So, it would be a surprise if this move didn’t go through, but Leicester are right to ensure they get a deal that suits them, and it needs to be the start of a very busy period for the club, as Cifuentes is going to have a lot of work to do as he reshapes the squad ahead of the deadline.
