Manchester City are reportedly watching Trent Alexander Arnold’s situation after injuries limited his impact at Real Madrid this season.

Difficult season for Alexander Arnold in Madrid

England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold 27 is facing complicated spell at Real Madrid with his first season in Spain disrupted by repeated injuries.

After leaving Liverpool in the summer and completing dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu expectations were high.

However his time in Madrid has turned into frustrating campaign, with the right back rarely available for consistent selection.

So far Alexander-Arnold has played only 497 minute across all competitions.

He has featured in 11 official match starting just seven of them, numbers that have raised questions about his role and future at the club.

Despite his limited involvement, Real Madrid’s leadership reportedly believe it is only matter of time before Alexander-Arnold regains full fitness and becomes regular starter.

Still media speculation has increased, with reports suggesting the club could consider selling him at the end of the season if his situation does not improve.

According to TEAMtalk, initial contact has taken place between people close to the player and Manchester City as the Premier League champions explore options for strengthening their right back position.

City searching for a long-term solution in that role with Kyle Walker nearing the later stages of his career and Alexander-Arnold seen as experienced and high-profile option.

City interest not yet concrete

While TEAMtalk claims City are monitoring the situation closely, other outlets have played down the idea of move.

The Manchester Evening News reports that City are not currently planning serious approach for Alexander-Arnold even if the club may want to reinforce the position during the summer window.

The report adds that City could solve the issue internally or through more flexible defenders such as Marc Guehi, rather than pursuing costly deal for the Madrid player.

Guardiola has also used players like Rico Lewis in the right back role and may do so again.

Summer decision could define his next step

Any transfer away from Madrid would likely depend on Alexander-Arnold’s desire to return to England as well as a major financial offer that could convince club president Florentino Perez.
