#ConteOut: Fans call for the coach’s head after disappointing Napoli 0-2 Lazio defeat | OneFootball

The infamous #ConteOut hashtag on social media has reappeared on Saturday and Sunday as disgruntled Napoli fans have begun to call for the coach’s head after the disappointing 2-0 defeat against Lazio at the Stadio Maradona.

Napoli’s slim hopes of challenging Inter for the 2025-26 Serie A title took a major blow with their 2-0 defeat at home against Lazio, a game in which Conte’s side failed to register a shot on target. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that this might have been Napoli’s worst performance under the stewardship of the 2024-25 Scudetto winner.

The result leaves Napoli 12 points behind Inter with just five games of the season left to play, and though the Partenopei still look set to secure Champions League qualification, there have been some calls for Conte to leave the club as the result of various events over the last few weeks.

Napoli’s last two results have been underwhelming: A 1-1 draw against Parma preceded the Lazio loss, which ended a string of five consecutive victories.

Conte has regularly pointed to Napoli’s injury troubles at various stages of the 2025-26 campaign, but given that the club’s star players – Kevin De Bruyne, Scott McTominay, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Stanislav Lobotka – have all been available for the last few weeks after a difficult season of injuries, this excuse is no longer valid.

There is a sense that, despite the injury troubles, Napoli should have been slightly more competitive this season given the summer of heavy spending they had during the transfer window.

Some fans also feel that Conte has not adequately addressed the reports linking him with a return to the Italy national team set-up as a replacement for Gennaro Gattuso, either, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over the club during the final run-in.
