Valencia’s pre-season is under way, with medicals this week and the first full session at Paterna on Monday. Cenk Özkacar has club permission to report on 10 July, so Corberán will not see him at the outset.

According to AS, the Türkiye centre-back was not in the coach’s plans last summer and trained apart with Sergi Canós and Hugo Guillamón. All three found moves late in the summer. Guillamón has since terminated his contract and left for Croatia, while Canós returns injured and will not play again until next year.

Cenk is fit and under contract with Valencia until 2028. He was a Miguel Ángel Corona signing, the club triggering a five million euro purchase option after a loan from Lyon.

He spent last season at Cologne in the Bundesliga, and the previous campaign at Valladolid. The German club held a purchase option but did not take it up, though he impressed. If nothing changes, he will rejoin to work under Corberán, who has never had him in his squad and made clear last summer he was not counting on him.

For the start of pre-season, the first-team centre-backs are Tárrega, Cenk and De Haas. Copete and Diakhaby remain in recovery, and Cömert has departed. Corberán plans to use academy options such as Iker Córdoba, back from Mirandés, and the club are seeking a reinforcement, with Özkacar not in the coach’s plans and will have to find a move away this summer.
