Flamengo director José Boto hit out at the officiating after a 1-1 draw with Corinthians at Neo Química Arena, highlighting two key decisions. He spoke in the mixed zone on Sunday night.

According to Globo.com, he criticised referee Rodrigo Pereira de Lima and VAR lead Wagner Reway, arguing Gabriel Paulista should have been sent off for striking Jorginho in the first half, a situation he likened to Carrascal’s Supercopa do Brasil red, while the Supercopa VAR was Rodolpho Toski Marques.

A new angle from behind the goal later showed the Paulista-Jorginho clash at a corner before the ball was in play. Refereeing analyst PC Oliveira said the footage revealed a trigger action and called it a red-card offence.

Early in the second half, Evertton Araújo was sent off for a stamp on Bidon. VAR recommended an on-field review, but the referee upheld his original decision.

Boto described that dismissal as caricature, insisting the law states a foot stamp is a yellow card and questioning whether Araújo played the ball first. He also bemoaned Flamengo repeatedly failing to play eleven against eleven against Corinthians.
