Corinthians agree with Memphis to settle unpaid player wages

Corinthians has reached an agreement with Memphis Depay to settle the R$ 23 million debt owed to the Dutchman, related to bonuses and signing fees stipulated in his contract. The agreement establishes a schedule that begins in December this year and extends until March 2026, with the management relying on the advance of resources from Liga Forte União (LFU) to honor the payments without compromising the club's cash flow.

According to the negotiated terms, Corinthians will pay R$ 3 million to Memphis between December and February, in monthly installments of R$ 1 million. This initial amount is already allocated in the club's budget, ensuring the start of payments within the agreed timeframe. The remaining R$ 20 million is scheduled to be settled in March, when the club intends to resolve the financial obligation with the number 10.

Negotiations with Memphis's staff began in the middle of the year and were only recently concluded. The management initially expected to start payments in November, but discussions extended until all agreement details were formalized. Now, with the issue resolved, Corinthians seeks to reorganize its financial planning and relieve budget pressure for 2026.

To honor the last part of the debt, the club is counting on the amount it will receive from the first installment of revenues from the Liga Forte União (LFU) agreement next year – an amount that will be reduced by about R$ 40 million due to the payment of the first annual installment of the R$ 150 million loan taken by the management in 2024.
