Corinthians beat Vasco da Gama 1-0 in the 13th round of the Brasileiro on Sunday night, Matheus Bidu scoring in the first half to end a nagging barren spell.
Meu Timao notes that the result eased pressure on an attack that had been undermining their campaign.
Before kick-off, the Parque São Jorge side had gone three straight league matches without a goal, losing to Internacional under Dorival Júnior, then drawing 0-0 with Palmeiras and Vitória after Fernando Diniz took charge.
Bidu’s strike also meant Corinthians did not hit their worst league drought since 2021, when they went four matches without scoring across the delayed end of 2020 and the start of the following season, affected by a calendar altered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Even so, the attack remains a concern, with only nine goals in 13 matches, the poorest record in this year’s Brasileiro. Vitória, 12th, have 12, while bottom side Chapecoense have 11.
The victory lifted Corinthians out of the relegation zone to 14th on 15 points, moving above Santos, Internacional and Atlético Mineiro.
Attention now turns to the Copa Libertadores, with Peñarol visiting on Thursday at 21:00, again at the Neo Química Arena, in the third round of the group stage.
