Corinthians have appointed Dr Paula Benayon to the women’s Health and Performance Unit from Wednesday, following the departure of Vanessa Melo on Monday. The club said in a statement that she will join the department this week.

It will be Benayon’s second spell at Parque São Jorge. She worked in the club’s swimming programme from 2017 to 2019, then moved to the women’s football set-up in 2020 and remained until 2022.

Between 2015 and 2023 she served with Brazil’s women’s national teams at under-17, under-20 and senior level, including at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. She holds an IOC diploma and has worked at the Brazilian Olympic Committee’s Olympic Laboratory since 2022.

Her arrival bolsters a medical department that has been busy this season. Centre-back Agustina is sidelined with a muscle injury in her left leg, while right-back Gi Fernandes is recovering from a muscle strain in her right glute.

Goalkeeper Rillary, centre-back Thaís Regina and midfielder Juliana Passari are in physical transition and have rejoined team training.

A World Cup break will give injured players additional time to recover before national competitions resume on 17 July against Ferroviária.
