Corinthians charged by STJD over Derby incidents in Copa do Brasil

About two months after the event, Corinthians was reported to the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) due to objects thrown onto the field at Neo Química Arena during the match against Palmeiras, for the Copa do Brasil. The case is still to be judged.

The complaint was based on the report released by referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio, who alleged that objects were thrown into the technical area of the Palmeiras team, in addition to lasers being aimed at goalkeeper Weverton. As a result, Corinthians was charged under article 213 of the CBJD (Brazilian Code of Sports Justice).

“At 39 minutes of the second half, the match was interrupted due to the throwing of various objects by the home fans towards the field of play. These included lighters, electronic cigarettes, and cups. Such incidents occurred where the visiting players were warming up, on the bench, and also in the technical area of this same team,” said the referee in the report.

If convicted, Corinthians will have to pay up to R$ 100,000, which will be determined in the STJD's judgment. Palmeiras was also reported for the delay in returning to the field after the break, potentially paying R$ 3,000 for the three minutes that exceeded the limit.

Both clubs will be judged this Friday, the 31st, at the STJD headquarters, located in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
